Curriculum Vitae

February 2022 - Present

Associate Lecturer of Games Design and Development @ Gloucestershire College

  • As a lecturer, I focus my teaching on design, narrative, and production skills/software - from foundation to bachelor's level. Also, I have been responsible for mentoring and primarily supporting students moving towards careers in those fields.

  • As an Academic Course Leader, I am responsible for the ‘big picture’ of a student's development, monitoring and managing grades, destination (career development/next academic steps), and other key aspects of a student's time in college.

  • As Academic Course Leader I am responsible for managing the teaching staff involved with teaching the students I am responsible for. I am required to plan the schedule for the academic year with sprint targets throughout, manage any required changes mid-year, organise check-ins with lecturers to receive updates on their progress, and adjust our priorities and focuses for the future sprint accordingly.

  • I have led well-received action to build relationships with industry-leading companies to benefit the students and to strengthen the position of the courses and college in the wider industry.

  • I have also, been a key figure in updating multiple courses, modernising them to bring them into industry expectation-driven courses.

September 2018 - July 2022

Games Design and Production BA (Hons) @ Abertay University, Dundee

A prestigious design school renowned for its school of Design and Informatics. The course was constructed to teach many aspects of game design alongside focused practical education.

In my 3rd year, I chose modules focusing on 3D modelling, focusing on the timeline from start to finish of character art development. In my 4th year, I chose to design my honours project to focus on world-building and narrative development. As part of the course, I have also studied design theory, level design, quality assurance, multiple game engines and programming languages.

  • Won 'Team of the Year 2021' at DARE Academy with Queer <coded> Games.

  • Secretary of Abertay University Programming Society [2021/22]

  • Speaker for the Games Development Society 

February 2021 - May 2021

Narrative and UI Designer
Cheese Ramen Games

  • Worked closely with a team to develop a prototype following multiple clients specifications in a limited time frame.

  • Provided the clients with multiple versions and adjustments following their feedback so that both clients would be happy we had achieved their separate goals. 

  • Developed a historical themed narrative discussing a wide range of themes including potentially sensitive subjects with empathy, supported by client provided as well as personal historical research.

  • Produced detailed and well-delivered documentation detailing the team’s design work and iterations for the client and supervisors prior to meetings highlighting changes and teammates successes so that they could follow our progress in their own time and ask more specific questions to my team.

  • Developed and reiterated UI designed for a young, mobile-centric demographic.

June 2021 - September 2021

Narrative and Level Designer
'Homebound'

  • Designed the plot arc with LGBTQ+ themes taken from peers' stories of coming out, with character development and personal acceptance being the key focuses.

  • Developed in-game narrative following a template designed in conjunction with the lead programmer so that the narrative assets performed optimally and were easy for developers to apply.

  • Developed the level design supported by researching genre examples and research into real-world settings. Reiterated throughout the project taking into consideration peers' and superiors' feedback.

September 2023 - Present

Producer & Narrative Designer
Queer <coded> Games

  • In the process of developing a new project themed around the psychology of cultural loss/blending building on my dissertation work on narrative-driven world-building.

  • I am responsible for managing and tracking the progress of development sprints. Alongside the regular team stand-ups, I also organise individual 1-to-1s to check on progress and understanding of the overall direction of the prototype development providing clarity.

  • Also, I am responsible for writing the overarching concept of the prototype which includes researching and applying the required psychological elements.

  • I also maintain the confluence documentation and GitHub repository.

May 2021 - Present

Team Lead
Queer <coded> Games

  • Organised scrums (various timescales dependent on project) with clear, well-communicated expectations with supporting short-, mid-and long-term goals, aiming to keep morale high and removing ambiguity in what the product was intended to be.

  • Managed the team’s budget (accounting, invoicing, and balancing). Our main goals for our funds were to first design and have printed identifiable merch for events and to make sure our team had the required equipment for socially distant meetings.

  • Responsible for managing our social media accounts (specifically Twitter and Twitch) in a way that was consistent across platforms and highlighted my teammate's work well so that their profile was raised.

  • Designed personalised support plans and styles with teammates so that they were better supported as individuals, increasing morale and team spirit.
